Jobs

We have to open more doors for the working and poor classes as well as those that feel disenfranchised by government. Americans that are not a part of the process will be less willing to be a part of the solution. Those that are in poverty have no reason to believe in the “American Dream.” From their position the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That is not the New York or the America that I want to be considered a part of. When elected, I pledged to fight for the working and poor classes fair share. That stems from not shouldering the tax burden to better services to enhance our communities.

The best way to address unemployment is to get the economy back on track. On the Federal, State, Local levels of government we should be doing the following:

• Investing in venture capital opportunities to rebuild our local downtowns

• Create more economic revitalization zones

• Strengthen the rights of working people:

- Increase minimum wage by $1.50 minimum
- Extend unemployment benefits
- Revised Labor Laws

• Reduce barriers to work by:

- Provide more transportation options for those that do not have the means to buy a vehicle
- More after school and pre-school programs. Parents are often forced to choose between working and taking care of their children

• Provide more training in the fastest job growing sectors (ie Information Technology and Bio-Pharmaceutical)

• Restore the “American Dream for Everyone” – People need to feel that a college degree, a good paying job, owning a home and providing a quality life for their family is within their reach.
